Let’s talk about The Cotton Club, if we must. It’s like, not a bad movie, but it is boring. Boring and well made is one of the worst things a movie can be. Jack is neither boring nor well made and is thus a more pleasant viewing experience, to me.

The film is about Dixie Dwyer (Richard Gere) who plays the bugle and wants to be a movie star. It is also about Sandman Williams (Gregory Hines) who is a tap dancer at the Cotton Club in Harlem. It is also about the rest of the people who populate the Cotton Club in the late 1920s and early 1930s, including the mobsters who work out of it.
